My name is Harold Kelley and I grew up in a little town in Eastern Kentucky. As a child, I spent much of my time outdoors-fishing, hiking, camping, etc. It is because of the time I spent outdoors that I developed a deep appreciation for nature.
In 8th grade, I was awarded a full academic scholarship (the Robinson Scholarship) to attend the University of Kentucky. My Freshman year of high school, I auditioned for the high school choir which was led by Mrs. Jane Lowe. Over the course of the next 4 years, Ms. Lowe mentored me and made a profound impact in my life. I also saw what she did for other kids and I decided that, someday, I wanted to have the same positive impact on student's lives.
That decision combined with my love of nature lead me to a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Science Eduction and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Kentucky. Over the course of my next 5 years of teaching in Central Kentucky, I met a girl in North East Tennessee who would eventually become my wife.
I moved to Northeast Tennessee in June, 2012 and began teaching at Cherokee High School in the 2012-2013 school year.
I thank my mother for instilling in me a deep appreciation of the natural world, Ms. Lowe for my love of working with high school students and my wife for unknowingly causing me to end up in a school as great as Cherokee High School!
